　　夜靜悄悄地來臨了，夜風襲來竟是這般的沁涼，錢財旺滿懷心事，佇立在門前發楞了良久，當他剛跨進大門，便聽見廳堂裡的掛鐘﹁噹噹……﹂敲了十二響，他的腦子有如一棒棒的悶棍被擊得火星四冒了。
　　﹁好了吧！準會出岔子的，已經深更半夜了，玉梅還沒回來，我早就叮嚀過妳，不要讓她去參加什麼軍民聯歡晚會，記得從前那有女孩子敢在外頭瘋瘋野野的。﹂
　　﹁老頭子呀！時代不同啦！包準我們家玉梅不會有問題的，甭這樣往壞處想。﹂錢老太太雖然這般安撫著老伴，但左鄰右舍看晚會的孩子們的確早都回來了，內心委實是有些耽心得忐忑不安。
　　﹁如果玉梅萬一出了什麼差錯，我看妳這做娘的怎承當得了？﹂
　　﹁會有什麼差錯？別胡思亂想沒事找事，我可信得過我們家玉梅。﹂
　　﹁一個黃花大閨女，三更半夜了，還在外面逛，如遇到了不三不四的歹徒，我看怎得了啊！﹂
　　﹁甭老是把事情想得這麼絕，今天的晚會，還是承蒙村長看得起咱家玉梅，才打發人來三催四請的邀她去表演；再說，有玉麟陪在身邊，應該不會出什麼岔子的。﹂
　　﹁我可放心不下，玉梅總是個女孩子呀！我看妳簡直把玉梅當外人啦！漠不關心的樣子。」
　　﹁玉梅是我的女兒，誰說我不關心她。﹂
　　﹁今兒妳讓她出去放任，妳就沒盡到做娘的責任，還要我來替孩子耽心。﹂
　　當財旺氣呼呼的闖到門首探望，玉梅姊弟倆卻跟一位陌生人有談有笑的回來了。
　　﹁爸爸，讓我來介紹一下，這是李排長。﹂玉梅落落大方地向父親介紹。
　　﹁伯父好。﹂李國斌臉上堆滿了笑容，畢躬畢敬行了個舉手禮。
　　﹁這麼晚了，你還跟來幹啥？﹂錢財旺兩眼睖瞪著李國斌，從錢老先生的態度、眼神裡，誰也會看得出他對李國斌這不速之客，是不表歡迎。
　　﹁我是奉命護送小弟、小妹回來。﹂李國斌尷尬得收斂了笑顏，不知所措，

祇好隨風轉舵：﹁小弟、小妹恕我不久留了，伯父再見。﹂
　　﹁再見！﹂玉梅、玉麟不約而同地跟李排長道別。姊弟倆見父親用這種態度待客，深感無地自容，但誰也不敢留李排長進屋裡坐會兒，因為他們倆太瞭解父親的固執脾氣，深怕父親會給李排長更大的難堪。
　　進到屋裡，錢老先生像瘋牛般地怒嗥：﹁你們這兩個死東西，為什麼回來這麼晚？一出去，就像斷了線的風箏，不知道要回來了，難道想把老子好好氣壞，活活氣死不成。﹂
　　﹁晚會結束得太晚，散場後，我們再三請求，要立刻趕回家，可是部隊裡的長官們堅持要留我們宵夜。﹂玉梅可臉色駭白了，聲音也有些顫抖。
　　﹁宵夜，宵那個鬼門子的夜。﹂錢老先生呲牙裂嘴，惡狠狠地訓誡：﹁下次不准再去跟阿兵哥在一塊兒鬼混，如再去的話，我可要打斷你們的狗腿。﹂
　　﹁阿兵哥有什麼不好？﹂錢老太太可聽不入耳：﹁自從阿兵哥來到咱們村子裡後，不是疏濬水溝，就是打掃道路，又幫百姓收割，又替村子裡的病患義診，如今又在跟我們修建社區，難道他們吃了我們一頓飯，收了我們一個子兒不成。﹂
　　﹁我可不稀罕。﹂錢老先生仍然扳起一副閻王面孔：﹁常言道，有錢能買鬼推磨，妳說說看，有錢什麼活兒別人不都是替我們做得好好的，我可不願領他們的情。﹂
　　﹁你別以為你有幾個臭錢，便神氣個沒完，告訴你，村子裡的人可巴望著阿兵哥們能久住下去，等到他們替我們把社區建成，到時我們的村子可煥然一新，變成了公園般的鄉村啦。﹂錢老太太凝睇著老先生：﹁老賊，那時你可罵在嘴裡，樂在心坎了。﹂
　　﹁……﹂財旺沒有理會，但心裡卻也暗自打量，的確，自從阿兵哥來到後，村子裡的環境衛生，和人們的生活習慣，以及健康情形是改善多了。其實他祇是擔心玉梅這般活躍，怕她在阿兵哥面前，會像他大姊那樣，在日據時代吃了日本兵的暗虧，而重蹈不幸的覆轍。

　　　　二
　　風和日麗的早晨，錢財旺漫步在翠綠的田野，見到自己一遍遼闊的莊稼，內心有著說不出的舒坦，眼見今年又要豐收，怎不令人心曠神怡得笑逐顏開呢？
　　正當綺麗的夢幻，縈迴在他的腦際，遠眺蔚藍的蒼穹，竟不留意，一腳踩到了一條小蛇，牠為了自衛，卻在錢財旺小腿上咬了一口，隨之鮮血直噴，錢老先生可經驗老到，毫不在意的讓毒血暢流了一會兒，便彎下身子，盤挽起傷腿，用嘴把毒血一口口吸喋出來，然後撕下褲管，將傷口紮緊。
　　這時適逢部隊出野外，還是李國斌眼睛尖銳，老遠便看出是錢老先生坐在田邊裹傷，便幾個箭步，衝到跟前關懷問道：
　　﹁錢老先生，怎麼啦？是怎傷到的？﹂
　　﹁被蛇咬了。﹂

　　﹁哎呀！這樣包紮怎行？又沒消毒，還是讓我攙扶你到我們醫務所去診治。﹂
　　﹁沒關係，我已把毒血全吸出來了。﹂
　　當錢老先生在醫務所把傷口紮妥，因毒性發作，他可疼痛得冒出了豆大的汗珠兒，臉色霎時顯得蒼白，醫官急忙喚來了輛救護車吩咐道：
　　﹁李排長，趕緊送老先生到省立醫院去救治。﹂
　　﹁周醫官，請你派人轉告他的家人。﹂
　　﹁他家住哪？﹂
　　﹁他是錢玉梅的父親。﹂
　　﹁知道了，你快上車吧！救人要緊。﹂
　　進到醫院，大夫便跟賤財旺進行手術，他的家人也尾隨趕到，玉梅見李國斌站在手術室門前焦急得無所適從，便急遽地追問：
　　﹁李排長，我爸爸怎麼哪？﹂
　　﹁被毒蛇咬傷，現正進行手術，不礙事的。﹂
　　約莫過了半個時辰，大夫汗流浹背的出來說：
　　﹁老先生已脫離了危險。﹂
　　﹁真是謝天謝地。﹂錢老太太雙手合掌。
　　﹁不過老先生失血過多，急需輸血。﹂
　　﹁伯父是什麼血型？﹂李國斌問玉梅。
　　﹁Ｏ型。﹂
　　﹁那太好了，我也是Ｏ型；大夫，馬上抽我的血輸給老伯，救人要緊。﹂
　　﹁這怎好意思？﹂玉梅滿臉粉上了懇摯的感恩：﹁祇怪我跟弟弟都是Ａ型，真是………﹂
　　李國斌情急截斷了玉梅的話頭：
　　﹁甭再客套啦！救人要緊。﹂
　　錢老先生經輸血後，蒼白的臉色漸漸轉紅過來，人也清醒多了，嘴邊唸唸有詞的不斷道謝：
　　﹁真是感謝排長，不是你，我的老命早已丟掉啦！前次是我錯怪了你，你還會生我的氣嗎？到底國軍跟日本兵是大大的不同囉！我們的國軍委實太好了，太好了。﹂錢財旺熱淚橫淌。
　　﹁我怎敢生您老人家的氣呢？﹂李國斌雙手緊握住他的手：﹁老伯，你要多休養，別勞神了。﹂
　　全病房的親友，每人都投以感激崇敬的眼光，癡癡地凝視著李國斌，他卻被一雙雙晶瑩的淚光閃耀羞澀得抬不起頭了。

　　雨、豪雨，傾盆傾盆地落著、瀉著，好似蒼穹鑿了一個個大窟窿，就這樣一

連落了好幾天，稻田淹沒了，橋樑沖斷了，禽畜溺斃了，房子倒塌了，人們無奈，祇好往房頂上待，樹上歇，山上躲。
　　水災，這是空前的一次大水災降臨了，平地化成了一片汪洋，陸海空三軍弟兄們紛紛參加了救災工作，空投乾糧，接運災民，李國斌率領全排弟兄撐著木筏，划著小舟，漏夜冒著強風大雨進入災區，參加救難工作，他們一次復一次的把一批批災民救出，李國斌頗為焦慮的，就是尋覓不到病癒出院不久的錢老先生一家子，當他們把最後一批災民駁運脫離險境時，李國斌仍不放心，命令弟兄們到災區再作一次綿密的搜尋，終於聽到自虎頭山巔傳來了一聲聲熟稔﹁救命！救命！……﹂的呼喚聲，李國斌打著燈號，命令弟兄們的舟筏向虎頭山挺進。
　　登岸，李國斌領著弟兄們直往山上衝，他的速度快得像剛逃出囚籠的猛獸般，弟兄們可沒法跟得上，李國斌嘴裡還不停氣喘喘地呼喚著：
　　﹁玉…梅……玉梅……﹂
　　﹁李排長，我們在這兒呀！﹂玉梅聽出來人的聲音，可高興得雀躍。
　　李國斌費了九牛二虎之力，總算找到了玉梅他們一家人。錢老先生病後的身體，怎經得起這場風吹雨淋，他躺在避風的岩石後面直打哆嗦，國斌攏身關懷問道：
　　﹁伯父，伯母您們受驚啦！﹂
﹁你們可辛苦了，還冒著這麼大的風雨來救我們。﹂錢老太太攏身雙手緊握住國斌的手。
　　﹁伯父怎哪？不舒服？﹂李國斌伸手探摸了下老先生的手頗感驚訝：﹁哎呀！老怕，您還在發燒吶！﹂
　　﹁爸爸身體還沒復原。﹂玉梅衷心的感激，晶瑩的淚眼在電筒照耀下，顯得愈發溫順嫵媚。
　　﹁讓我先揹伯父下山吧！你們在這待會兒，弟兄們馬上就會來引導你們上船的。﹂
　　﹁太謝謝你了。﹂玉梅、玉麟異口同聲道出了內心深處的感激。
　　當李國斌揹老先生上船後，便馬不停蹄的又登山去接玉梅他們了。在途中，他遇見張班長揹著錢老太太氣喘喘的蠻吃力的樣子。
　　﹁張班長，你歇會，讓我來揹。﹂
　　﹁嘿！排長，別瞧不起人啦！相信我還是揹得動，你還是到後面去接小妹小弟吧！﹂
　　山路雖然巇嶮，國斌見玉梅小心翼翼得像蹇兔般的懼恐滾落到山溝，而一步一步緩慢跚蹣得委實令人憐憫。國斌忙上前扶攙住她那嬌嫩的纖手，玉梅經他這麼一握，心驚膽顫隨即丟棄到九霄雲外了，她已擁有無限的安全感，腦際也映起了光輝燦爛欣欣向榮的生機和那遼闊絢麗夢幻的遠景。
　　竟想不到，就在這一剎那間，山上掀起了一陣嘩然的響聲，國斌機智地么喚命令著：﹁就地掩蔽！﹂於是他很自然地把玉梅緊緊護衛在他那寬襟胸懷裡了，

玉梅可像小雞躲在母雞翅下那般的安逸自在。
　　驟變過後，玉梅雖藏在國斌懷裡安然無恙，但國斌卻被滾石擊破了腦袋，他的鮮血直淌，像雨落在玉梅的臉上、唇上，玉梅感到一股鹹味沁到嘴裡，連連推了國斌好幾把，他卻癱瘓得不能動彈，她可慌得放聲哭喚起來了：
　　﹁不好了，排長出事了，排長出事啦！﹂

　　國斌送到醫院，玉梅全家大小見他尚未清醒過來，大夥兒都急得好似熱鍋上的螞蟻，在急診室外直蹦直跳，錢老先生見大夫剛跨出門檻便搶先詢問：
　　﹁醫生，李排長傷勢打緊吧？﹂
　　﹁很難說。﹂
﹁要不要輸血？﹂
　　﹁當然要。﹂
　　﹁把我的血輸給他。﹂錢老先生拏紮起衣袖，懇求大夫的同意。
　　﹁不可以。﹂大夫搖頭。
　　我的血也是Ｏ型呀！錢老先生再度向大夫保證：﹁包準不會有問題。﹂
　　﹁不是講你的血有問題，而是你的年歲大了，怕……。﹂
　　﹁怕我的血是冷的不成。﹂錢老先生氣呼呼截斷了大夫的話頭。
　　「別會錯了意。﹂大夫緊握住錢老先生的手：﹁我是惟恐您的身子吃不消。﹂
　　﹁不會的，我的身體不是好端端的嗎？請你放心，可儘管抽。﹂
　　大夫祇是搖頭，沒有接腔。
　　錢財旺可光火了：
　　﹁你瞧不起人啦！他的血可輸在我的血管裡愛民，難道就不能讓我的血，流到他的身子裡去敬軍嗎？你們這樣做是太不公平了，也太藐視人了。﹂
　　﹁老先生，您會錯意了，我們血庫裡有的是血，同時李排長尚存了幾百西西血在我們血庫裡，用他自己的血不是更好嗎？﹂
　　﹁不管怎樣講，我知道你都是在瞎子說夜話──騙人的。﹂錢老先生再怎麼解釋也是不相信，硬伸出手臂請大夫讓他輸血：﹁現在我只求你把我的血抽給他。﹂
　　﹁老先生還是請您冷靜點。﹂大夫雙手緊握住錢老先生伸出的右手。
　　﹁你如不跟我抽，我可要把血管切開。﹂錢老先生隨即在口袋裡掏出一把小刀。
　　玉梅頗知父親說出必行的個性，便暗自懇請大夫少抽一些，以便達到他老人家的心願。
　　大夫無可奈何，祇好在錢老先生身上抽出了血液，輸進到李排長的血管裡頭去了。
　　錢老先生見李排長眼睛徐徐張開，人也甦醒過來了，他老人家可樂得合不攏

嘴道：
　　﹁這樣才公平呀！你的血在我的血管裡愛民，我的血可也在你的血管裡敬軍啦！﹂
　　全屋子的人都感動得淚落了。

　　　　五

　　李國斌的傷勢，在錢玉梅悉心關照服侍下，很快便傷癒出院了，玉梅可對他由羡慕進展到仰慕，如今已昇華到了愛慕階段了，她不能少了他，他的確是位道道地地十全十美的標準青年。
　　錢老太太早已窺睨出了女兒的心事，想私下探討出她的口氣：﹁李排長這人怎樣？﹂
　　﹁很好呀！﹂
　　﹁怎麼個好法？﹂錢老太太追問。
　　﹁他是我們家的救命恩人，還有比這更好的大好人嗎？﹂
　　﹁還有呢？﹂看樣子，錢老太太硬是想打破砂鍋問到底。
　　﹁做事熱忱，待人和藹。﹂玉梅傾訴出她的真心話：﹁人嘛長得挺英俊瀟洒，既不抽煙，也不喝酒，賭博更是不沾邊了。﹂
　　﹁在妳的眼裡，他是沒有滴點缺陷囉！﹂
　　﹁當然啦！﹂
　　﹁妳喜歡他了。﹂
　　﹁媽，我不來了，您怎麼拿女兒尋開心呢？﹂逗得玉梅面兒羞澀得赧紅。
　　﹁明兒媽央人替妳說媒去。﹂錢老太太把女兒挽在懷裡。
　　﹁………﹂玉梅頷首微笑沒有吭聲。
　　這時適逢李國斌奉命進駐村子裡來擔任重建社區的工作，他已擢升為副連長了。有天工作完畢，便上玉梅家來拜訪，錢老太太乘玉梅剛溜進房門，便想打聽他對玉梅的意思如何？
　　﹁我們這一家子，都是虧得你救了。﹂錢老太太憶起往事尚有餘悸，對李國斌的大恩大德，全家大小都是終身難忘。
　　﹁那裡，那裡，這是我們國軍應盡的義務。﹂
　　﹁尤其玉梅那丫頭，成天還惦記著你，說什麼沒有你，早就沒命啦！她還時常提到，不知要怎樣來報答你這份恩情。﹂
　　﹁沒什麼，沒什麼。﹂李國斌頗為謙虛：﹁區區小事，何足掛齒？﹂
　　﹁她可把它當作一件大事看哪。﹂
　　﹁………﹂李國斌找不出妥貼的話來對答。
　　﹁說真格的，你喜不喜歡玉梅？﹂錢老太太湊前攏近他身邊。
　　﹁當然喜歡，自從認識玉梅，我便一直把她當作自己的小妹看待。﹂

　　玉梅在房裡竊聽到這席話後，已是心花怒放而飄飄欲仙了。
　　﹁這就好了，那我就跟你們選個黃道吉日，訂下這樁親事，免得我成天替這丫頭操心。﹂錢老太太便這樣順水推舟，替他們作了決定。
　　﹁訂親？﹂國斌驚訝得幾乎不相信自己的耳朵：﹁這怎麼使得！﹂
　　﹁怎麼？﹂錢老太太頗感意外：﹁你不願意？嫌棄我們家丫頭。﹂
　　﹁不是這個意思。﹂國斌忙解釋：﹁伯母，不瞞您說，我早已訂過親了。﹂
　　﹁訂過親？﹂錢老太太驚異得有些責怪：﹁怎沒聽你提起過。﹂
　　﹁祇怪我太笨拙了，又沒適當的機會，所以一直沒跟您們提及此事，還望伯母能原諒。﹂
　　玉梅在屋裡聽到他這麼一敘述，霎時已成了一個洩了氣的皮球癱軟倒在床上了，淚水像雨般簌簌落下，她那綺麗的夢幻可成了泡影，教她如何才能熨平這團坎坷抑鬱的愁雲？
　　總算玉梅想得開，把國斌平時對她的指引和教導來激勵自己：﹁現代青年決不可成天揹著兒女私情的包袱，我們要儘量發揮個人的長處，去替國家多出一份力量，為社會多盡一份責任，這樣才不愧為是現代青年。領袖曾有名言：﹃時代考驗青年，青年創造時代。﹄我們要經得起時代的考驗，勇敢地來創造這屬於我們自己的新時代………。﹂
　　﹁對！我是應該堅強地站起來，做這劃時代的新青年。﹂玉梅拭乾了淚水，坐起來自言自語：﹁如今我已曉得我應該走那條光明燦爛的大道了。﹂

　　全村子經過好幾個月的社區重建，現在已經全部竣工了，在今兒晚上，還特別舉行了場社區重建落成慶功軍民聯歡晚會。會場佈置得五彩繽紛，與會軍民每個人臉上都掛滿了笑容，會場裡到處洋溢著恭維道賀之聲，晚會時地方首長贈送了好幾座銀盾給對社區重建有功的部隊暨官兵，李國斌副連長，也因奮勇救災有功，獲得了一座﹁愛民楷模﹂的大銀盾；軍中部隊長也回贈了一座﹁敬軍典型﹂的銀牌送給慷慨捐血敬軍的錢財旺老先生。
　　晚會進行時，出現在臺上，使李國斌感到頗為意外驚奇的，是玉梅、玉麟竟雙雙穿上了整齊畢挺的軍服上場，表演了一首慷慨激昂，振奮民心士氣的歌舞：
　　﹁熱血滔滔，
　　　熱血滔滔，
　　　像江裡的浪，
　　　像海裡的濤，
　　　……………。﹂
　　等他們姐弟倆剛表演完，李國斌便匆遽跑到後臺去問個究竟：
　　﹁玉梅、玉麟你們姐弟倆化裝表演得太好了，太棒了，也太像了。﹂
　　﹁什麼？我們是化裝的？﹂玉梅嘟撅起小嘴：﹁難道祇准許你可以做保國衛

民的阿兵哥不成？﹂
　　﹁你們真的從軍啦！﹂李國斌頗感驚異。
　　﹁是姐姐不要我告訴你的，想讓你驚奇下。﹂玉麟攤出一副得意的樣兒。
　　﹁伯父怎會讓你們去從軍？﹂李國斌委實不相信這是事實。
　　﹁想不到吧！﹂玉麟樂得笑咧了嘴：﹁嘿！嘿！﹂
　　﹁還不是受你的感化。﹂玉梅插嘴。
　　﹁那裡，那裡。﹂國斌謙虛地說：﹁這是我們軍人份內事。﹂
　　﹁要是在日據時代，再怎麼，父親絕不會讓我們出來當兵的。﹂
　　﹁那可不是。﹂國斌接腔：﹁日據時代是做亡國奴呀！現在可是當主人翁了。﹂
　　﹁何止這些，﹂玉梅理了下散髮：﹁父親最為感動的就是你替父親輸血，水災時又冒險救了我們一家子，同時國軍又時常幫助百姓收割、義診、建社區等，的確國軍是太好了，若是要跟日本軍閥比起來，那真是有著天淵之別了。﹂
　　﹁伯父就是基於這些理由，要你們從軍的囉！﹂
　　﹁還有，自從臺灣光復後，政府實施三七五減租耕者有其田，土地重劃，免息貨款等措施，農民生活獲得大大的改善；城市也實施平均地權，開闢道路，高樓大廈一天天增多，人民收益也年年增加。現在基地又將完成十大建設，緊接又要實施十二大建設，要把國家從開發中國家，推進到開發國家之林，這些都是我們大有為政府開明政治的具體表現。﹂
　　﹁的確是如此。﹂
　　﹁恨只恨，中國海峽兩岸分治尚未統一，削弱了中華兒女的力量，要國家強盛，首先應以武力作後盾。父親因年事過高，所以特地鼓勵我們姐弟從軍報國……。﹂
　　﹁伯父愛國思想真了不起。﹂國斌豎起了大拇指：﹁你們這個家庭真稱得上是愛國之家了。﹂
　　﹁沒有國那裡會有家？﹂玉麟也提高了嗓門：﹁所以父親要我們從軍報國。﹂
　　﹁真了不起，真了不起。﹂國斌雙手均揚起了大拇指在搖晃不停。
　　晚會最後一個節目，由他們三人合唱了首臨時改編的軍民本是一家人曲子：
　　 軍愛民，民敬軍，
　　　軍民本是一家人，
　　　今天努力建基地，
　　　明天跨海統江山，

　　　軍是民，民是軍，
　　　軍民就是一家人，
　　　團結合作整桑梓，

　　晚會雖然是散了，但這首親切動聽雋永的歌曲，卻在每個人的心際腦海裡迴蕩嘹喨個不休。
