Non-Commercial and Commercial
1. All consignments must be ‘canned’, commercially prepared and packaged, and shelf-stable* (see definition below).
* Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) defines shelf stable as non-perishable food with a shelf life of many months to years.
2. Commercially prepared and packaged canned fruit and vegetables may be imported without quarantine restriction.
Note: If a consignment is not ‘canned’ and/or it is not commercially prepared and packaged, AQIS officers at the International Mail Centres and Airports will assess the product and decide whether or not the specific product such as home made preparations of fruit jams and conserves can be permitted entry. If the product is a non-permitted item, then the importer has the option of re-export or destruction.
3. ‘Canned’ includes any product that is commercially heat treated and is enclosed in hermetically sealed containers such as:
a) metal cans;
b) glass jars or bottles with ‘twist off’ lids or caps;
b) plastic containers that have heat sealed lids or lids closed by a double seam (excludes those with snap or plastic lids);
c) retort pouches.
Note that retort pouches are distinct from vacuum packs.
4. The decision on whether home made preparations of jams and conserves and can be permitted entry is based on the following facts:
a) sugar is a natural preservative;
b) the product is boiled with sugar and pectin, and without sufficient boiling it will not gel properly;
c) the product is shelf stable (The Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) defines shelf stable as non-perishable food with a shelf life of many months to years). _________________ 澳洲阳光报关公司
