5、The Bucket.

How dear to this heart are the scenes of my childhood,
When fond recollection presents them to view!--
The orchard, the meadow, the deep-tangled wild-wood,
And every loved spot which my infancy knew!
The wide-spreading pond, and the mill that stood by it;
The bridge, and the rock where the cataract fell;
The cot of my father, the dairy-house nigh it;
And e'en the rude bucket that hung in the well,--
The old oaken bucket, the iron-bound bucket,
The moss-covered bucket which hung in the well.

That moss-covered vessel I hailed as a treasure;
For often at noon, when returned from the field,
I found it the source of an exquisite pleasure,--
The purest and sweetest that nature can yield.
How ardent I seized it, with hands that were glowing,
And quick to the white-pebbled bottom it fell!
Then soon, with the emblem of truth overflowing,
And dripping with coolness, it rose from the well,
The old oaken bucket, the iron-bound bucket,
The moss-covered bucket arose from the well.

How sweet from the green, mossy brim to receive it,
As, poised on the curb, it inclined to my lips!
Not a full, blushing goblet could tempt me to leave it,
The brightest that beauty or revelry sips.
And now, far removed from the loved habitation,
The tear of regret will intrusively swell,
As fancy reverts to my father's plantation,
And sighs for the bucket that hangs in the well,--
The old oaken bucket, the iron-bound bucket,
The moss-covered bucket that hangs in the well.

The orchard, the meadow, the deep-tangled wild-wood, 果园，牧场，那魂牵梦绕的野树林之最，
And every loved spot which my infancy knew! 还有我早期所知的每一可爱的地点分布！
The wide-spreading pond, and the mill that stood by it; 宽阔扩展的池塘，旁边上站立的磨坊；
The bridge, and the rock where the cataract fell; 桥梁，以及大瀑布飞流直下的岩石窟窿；
The cot of my father, the dairy-house nigh it; 我父亲的马舍，那近处的挤奶房；
And e'en the rude bucket that hung in the well,-- 甚至还有悬挂在井里粗鲁的水桶，
The old oaken bucket, the iron-bound bucket, 那破旧的橡木制的桶，铁皮包扎的桶环，
The moss-covered bucket which hung in the well. 悬挂在井里的那苔藓覆盖着的水桶。

For often at noon, when returned from the field, 常在正午，那时从田地里归回，

How sweet from the green, mossy brim to receive it, 从绿色多苔的井边提水是多么甜美，
As, poised on the curb, it inclined to my lips! 因为，在井边石上摆好姿势，它就向着我的嘴唇！
Not a full, blushing goblet could tempt me to leave it, 并非丰满的酒杯能诱惑我离开谁，
The brightest that beauty or revelry sips. 美人，或狂欢的宴会啜饮最辉煌之泉。
And now, far removed from the loved habitation, 而如今，已远远地从这可爱的住所迁居，
