FIRST ARTICLE REPORTING (FAR)

All products sent to AWIE must have a complete (100% of all requirements verified) and approved first article report on file at the supplier. The quantity of parts used for first article inspection shall be agreed between the supplier and AWIE's Buyer.

First article inspections must be repeated for any portion of the product that is impacted by a design, process, or tooling change. A process change is any activity that affects the form, fit, function, or safety of the product or the quality plan of the AWIE purchased item. Any deviation to AWIE requirements on the first article must be approved in writing by AWIE.

Suppliers may use our first article form or their own. If the supplier uses their own form, it must include the following: the product number, a clear indication of the requirement being checked, the results, a clear indication of pass/fail of each characteristic being checked, a record of the inspector performing the inspection, date of inspection, the pass or fail disposition of the results, the signature of the inspector and of the supplier's Quality Manager or designee.

A marked-up drawing shall also be included that indicates all inspection points. As applicable, the first article inspection reports shall also include material test reports and data from sub-tier suppliers. Copies of the first article reports are required to be sent to AWIE. AWIE may sample or perform a duplicate 100% first article to verify the product and inspection methods.

If key characteristics are identified on either the drawing or by the AWIE Buyer, a process Capability Study may be required for each of the key characteristics. Details will be provided by Supplier Engineering or AWIE Quality.
